何其仙 He Qi Xian

In 1981, He Qi Xian 何其仙 began her career as a zisha craftsman at the renowned Factory 1 Zisha Factory under the special supervision of Shen Jian Qiang 沈建强 - Specialist and Master of Jin Wen ware , celebrity and Master of Arts and Crafts of Jiangsu Province. On a constant pursuit for success, He Qi Xian subsequently joined Fang Jing Zisha Research Institute, only to later become a dedicated student of Cheng Hui 程辉 - Master of Chinese art, and Master of Arts and Crafts in Jiangsu Province. Indeed, He Qi Xian’s earlier years as a zisha craftsman were enriched by the exceptional teachings and guidance of some of China’s best and most well-known zisha masters, thereby spearheading her talent beyond those of her peers' and artists’ well above her rank!

With years of acquired knowledge internalized and fused with her own artistic form and philosophy, He Qi Xian’s technique naturally evolved its own personality and charm. Having perfected several techniques (such as Guang Ware, Hua Ware, and Jin Wen ware), it is her Jin Wen ware that organically brought her skills and subsequent fame to their pinnacle by winning the Jiangsu Province handcraft pottery competition’s first prize multiple times in a row!

Hailed as the “Queen of Zisha Champions”, He Qi Xian’s masterpieces have won countless awards and accolades. In 2014, her famously innovative “椭圆合菱 Elliptic He Ling Hu” won first prize at Jiangsu Province’s National Handcraft Pottery Competition; her “飘逸的花季 Elegant Flower Season” is well-known for merging expertise and aesthetics in an intelligently and elegantly-composed piece; her “紫玉菱 Purple Jade Ling” intuitively depicts the conflict and unity of Yin and Yang by contrasting and combining the softness of its curves (Yin) and the sharpness of its angles (Yang); her “菱花福姿 Ling Flower Fu Zi” is known for its wholesomely round and vivacious body, elevated by its dignified composition that is wholly evocative of the classic Confucian aesthetic. He Qi Xian’s unique ability to build harmony and cohesion from naturally opposing features manifests perfectly balanced, innovative masterpieces, each one echoing her unparalleled vision and unquestionable skill in the Zisha arts and crafts.

He Qi Xian’s works have been highly appraised and treasured by both domestic and international art collectors and aficionados and greatly esteemed by famous Chinese Arts and Crafts Masters - Lv Yao Chen 吕尧臣 and Research Level Art and Crafts Master of China - Wu Ming 吴鸣. But despite being reverently named as the prime representative of Jin Wen ware, He Qi Xian continues her perpetual quest for artistic progress and innovation, while deriving personal growth and cultivation by creating wonderfully one-of-a-kind pieces for the discerning Zisha connoisseur.
